Il mito narra che Galatea fosse innamorata di Aci, un giovane bellissimo. Quando Una sera Polifemo vide i due amanti al chiaro di luna in riva al mare. Accecato dalla rabbia, scagliò contro il povero pastorello un grosso masso di lava, lasciandolo senza vita.Giove e gli Dei ebbero pietà e trasformarono i resti pastorello in un piccolo fiume che nasce dall’Etna e sfocia in una piccola spiaggia, la stessa dove i due amanti erano soliti incontrarsi.
Come l’omonima terra idealizzata dalle mille delizie, Arcadia si veste della lussureggiante vegetazione che copriva il Peloponneso ai tempi di Omero e degli eroi.
